Flair works with integrated smart thermostats to manage a range of features.
Set Point Control
When you integrate your smart thermostat, there is one major decision you will need to make. This decision is represented in the Set Point Controller field in Flair. The two options are "Thermostat" and "Flair app".
- If you choose "Thermostat", the set points and modes on your thermostat will be dictated solely by the settings and schedules on your thermostat. Flair will not make changes to your thermostat.
- If you like changing the temperature directly from your smart thermostat(s), prefer to use your smart thermostat app, or have an existing schedule on your smart thermostat that you cannot replicate in Flair, you can leave your smart thermostat in control of the set points and modes.
- One thing to keep in mind when making this decision is that your thermostat will not have access to any of the temperature data from your Flair Pucks and will not be able to leverage that data to make more data-driven decisions for your comfort.
- When you use the Set Point Controller = Thermostat option, it is still recommended that you have a Flair schedule that advises Flair of the temps you wish to achieve for each room, and Flair will use these temperatures to determine when to open and close the Smart Vents.
- If you choose "Flair app", Flair will control the set points and modes of your smart thermostat.
- If you choose "Flair app", Flair will have access to the temperature data from all integrated smart thermostats and their compatible sensors, in addition to the temperature data from any Flair Pucks in the home. This can often lead to better data and better comfort outcomes from your thermostat.
- It is strongly recommended that you have a full Flair schedule with no gaps. At all times, there should be an Active event with a purposeful set point for that room or an Inactive event that lets Flair know that the room is not a priority during that time. A best practice is to set rooms Inactive when they are typically not occupied - kitchens at night, bedrooms during work hours, etc...
Home/Away Status
Flair gives you a choice for how to determine Home/Away status: read it from your smart thermostat, use app geolocation, or set it manually using the Flair app.
Away Behavior
When you're away from your home, Flair can turn off systems or use the Smart Away feature to keep your home in a safe range.
Temperature Readings
Flair can leverage the temperature readings from supported integrated thermostats and their remote sensors.*
Occupancy
Flair can use occupancy data from integrated smart thermostats and their room sensors to set rooms Active or Inactive.*
