What remote temp sensors are compatible with Flair?
AnsweredI don't want to know about Ecobee or Nest sensors that you support. I want to know what sensors ONLY that can act on their own to report a room temp. Honestly, I'm really surprised you didn't include a temp sensor in the vent that is not active when airflow is present.
I would hope that you have a room temp sensor only coming out because buying a puck for every room isn't always needed. I'd pay $20 for a room sensor but $70 for a puck is not going to work for every room.
I only need to know room temps and want to adjust these across the house for even temperatures in every room. I don't need control of the temp in many rooms. If you allowed us to set a room temp via your API, like make a PATCH for rooms that lets you update:
But honestly, I'd be happy to pay $20 for a room sensor instead.

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for this message and this idea! We in fact have a temperature sensor in the Smart Vent however we don't use this temperature sensor for sensing room temperatures as discussed here (the Smart Vent is, however, measuring several variables, including duct-side temperature). To reiterate what was said there, we did a lot of testing on whether we could correctly identify room conditions—temperature, humidity, pressure, and occupancy—using the Smart Vent. Our experiments confirmed what we believed all along. Despite what a competitor claims, it is not possible to reliably measure room conditions from vents. For example, placing the temperature sensor in a vent is probably one of the worst places to put it. It results in very skewed temperature readings because you're measuring the temperature right next to a hot or cold airflow. Nothing is more frustrating than having a smart HVAC system that can't tell the correct temperature! In fact, even when the equipment is idle, often times the temperature at the vent doesn’t equilibrate with the room temperature—measuring your HVAC equipment's activity is also not a reliable way to measure room temperature.
That being said, we're definitely intrigued by your idea! Our engineering team discussed this and basically you can do this by creating a remote sensor via the API. You can then post sensor data, which will then be used by the App and algorithm. You may need a permission to be set up by us, but we can double-check via a conversation with our support team. As a side note, this is why we made our API open for our customers to tinker with. We're always amazed with the ingenuity users can bring to our products!
Thanks for this—it's a cool idea!

Bringing back an old thread as I don't see any better ones.
You mentioned using the API to create a remote sensor. Looking at the docs I don't see any segment to create a remote sensor or post temp updates
Could you point me to the documentation for this?

I would also want to do this. I already have a makeshift sensor running (I made it myself for measuring CO2 levels, but it measures temperature and humidity as well). I can see the API would allow me to open/close a given vent through the manual endpoint, which would technically work, but it's a bit clunky, since the temp wouldn't show up in the Flair dashboard. Any help would be appreciated. Also, just like the original poster, I would be happy to pay $20 for a sensor that works out of the box.

Any luck opening or closing vents via IFTTT? I'm not much of a coder, I wish I was. I have some motion sensors I'd like to integrate into only opening vents if someone was in the room within the past hour or so, etc.
Thanks in advance, I wouldn't hesitate to pay someone for their time in getting some integration working.

I haven't tried it yet, but this endpoint seems to be the place to open/close a vent "manually"
