Hardwired vents, Better control?

    I asked this same question to support two months ago. Response was:

     

    "The biggest power advantage to hardwiring a vent to a 24V transformer is less consumption of batteries."

    I would assume that the vent software is not aware of its power source.  There is likely a small transformer and rectifier inside the vent that converts AC 24v down to the equivalent of the batteries (3.5v).  If you look on the statistics page, the system reports the voltage input to the vents at 3.5v, and not 24v, so I believe the system doesn't know the difference.

    James, with that said you figure the vents should know if the power is going through the rectifier or not. If it's using the rectifier then they are hardwired.

    I would bet that the rectifier and transformer are sensorless and simply feed directly into the board power and ground bus.  Whether the bus is getting power from the battery or rectifier, it probably has no clue.
