Disconnecting Vents and frequent opening closing
Ive submitted these questions to
tech support via the flair iOS app, but no response yet. My return window is soon to close, so posting here hoping for a quicker response
My setup: 1 puck, 2 flair vents all in the same bedroom and linked to ecobee. Each device is no more than 12 feet away from the furthest device in the room
Question 1: when checking status in the flair app, I frequently see the gents are "not connected" when this happens, i reinstall the batteries and the connection is quickly re-established. The problem seems to be better after i re-located the puck to be within 6 feet of the vents. RSSI is typically -70 to -80 . Any idea whats going in here?
Question 2: While lying in bed at night (same room as the devices), I can hear the motors activate on the vents. Im not sure if they are opening/closing, but it sure sounds like it. The vents are activating several times a minute with no apparent cause. Temp is steady in the room and well below the threshold to open/close. Any idea what's going kn here?

I opened a support ticket with Flair, below is their response:
Q) Vent motor runs several times a minute when there is no need to open or close— what is it doing?
This is due to the Flair Smart Vent loosing connection; as when this happens, it will automatically open. Once the connection is restored, it will determine if it needs to be either opened or closed.
Q) Both vents are in the same room and equidistant to the single puck (12 feet). RSSI for vents is between -65 and -90.Flair Devices communicate over a 915MHz frequency similar to WiFi, though with a lower power requirement. As you're experiencing low signal-strength of the Flair Smart Vents, it's most likely due to interference which may be caused by large metal/reflective objects (T.V.'s, mirrors, weightlifting equipment, etc.), high-powered electronics (microwave, refrigerator, hairdryer, etc.), or similar-frequency networks (zigbee, z-wave, ecobee, etc.).

Hi KC Madsen,
Our 915 MHz radio frequency hardware and software have not changed in the past few years. I'm not "in the loop" to know about any possible or planned changes. So unfortunately, I'd assume that you would experience the same issues today as you did two years ago.

I had the same issue after installing my flair puck and vent last night. For me the issue was the combined 2.4/5ghz network I was broadcasting. It's a documented issue that the pucks have a hard time staying put on the 2.4ghz network in this combined environment (seriously figure you stuff out Flair, none of my other smart devices have this issue).
Splitting my wifi networks into separate 2.4 and 5ghz networks resolved my frequent disconnect issues and now my vents respond as expected.
