Vents come in many sizes and can vary throughout your home. Make sure to individually measure each supply vent using a method below.
Method 1 (Fastest)
Measure the outside dimensions and round down to the nearest even number (inch). This method isn't recommended in Canada.
Method 2 (Most Accurate)
Remove your vent and measure the duct opening.

Will a Flair Smart Vent fit my duct opening?
Compare your measurement to the vent dimensions on our sizing chart — not to the size name. If your opening is the same as those dimensions or slightly larger, that size fits. The C and D dimensions for every size are listed in What Smart Vent sizes do you offer?
Flair's size names (8x10, 6x12, etc.) are nominal duct sizes, which is the standard way vents are named. The vent's actual measurements run a little under the name. So an opening that measures a bit more than the size name is normal, and it still fits.
For example, an opening measuring 7 3/4 in. x 9 3/4 in. takes the 8x10 Smart Vent with internal dimensions of 7.6 in. x 9.6 in. An opening measuring 5 3/4 in. x 11 3/4 in. takes the 6x12, with internal dimensions of 5.6 in. x 11.6 in. In both cases, the measurements of the duct opening are slightly larger than the internal dimensions of the Smart Vent, which is what you want.
My duct opening measures larger than the size name. Is that a problem?
Usually not. A duct opening that measures a little over the nominal size name is normal and will still take that size of Smart Vent, because the vent itself is built slightly under the name.
If your opening is more than slightly larger — enough that the vent would visibly not cover it — contact support with your measurements and we'll tell you what fits.
