Vent size question: smaller vents
I live in a condo with a single heat pump. I would love to get Flair, specifically for nighttime -- I have 4 total vents, but only 1 is in the bedroom, where I'd like to redirect all the air to.
The problem is all 4 vents are smaller than the smallest Flair offers. They are still rectangular / square, but quite small.
Has anyone had success in adapting the vent opening and making it bigger to be able to fit a Flair vent? I am not saying I want to change the duct work, but just the opening. I understand this will require cutting drywall, etc.

Hi Oleg,
We have a number of customers that have increased the size of the vent openings to make Flair work. What are current dimensions of the hole where the vent goes in?Also, I should note that while in manual mode, you can have your vents do whatever you want, our algorithms in auto mode aren't going to close three vents with one open in order to respect air flow minimums. That said, if there is one vent in the rest of your living space that sends more air to your bedroom, I'd suggest starting there. You may also want a vent for the bedroom itself in case you'd like to send air the rest of the living space instead of the bedroom during the day. Probably a better way to start as well because you don't need to adjust as many dimensions :)

Thank you for the response Daniel. I would definitely want to convert all 4 vents to being smart to optimize operation.
I just measured out the interior dimensions of my vents. They are:
2x 6" by 8" (living room and kitchen)
2x 6" by 6" (bedrooms)
I would imagine the course of action here would be to get 4x 6" by 10" vents, and cut the holes to match? I am not comfortable doing that work myself -- what kind of a contractor could help me out?
Thanks!
Oleg

Hi Oleg,
Yes, Flair will close no more than 30% of vents in the *entire* home. So you have to count the total of Smart Vents and regular vents.
For example, if you have a total of 15 vents in your home, Flair will be able to close 30% at one time - up to 5 vents. So if you replace 4 vents with Smart Vents, Flair will be able to close all 4 at one time (as necessary, of course).
All the best,

I have the same question on increasing the vent opening size. Currently I have 2 vent holes that are about 4"x8", so I'd want to add about 2 horizontal inches to make it 4"x10". I'd like to do the work myself since it's such a small job, but I'm having trouble finding good tutorials on the subject. Are there any you recommend?
