Help: Best-practice setup for Flair Vents + Pucks with Ecobee (5 rooms; guest room occupancy control)
Hi
My setup
-
Home: 2nd floor only (large, single HVAC zone from the furnace/AC)
-
Rooms (“zones”): 5 total
-
Hardware: 5 × Flair Vents + 5 × Flair Pucks (one per room)
-
Thermostat: ecobee (with remote SmartSensors available)
-
Goal: individual room temperature control and automatic vent behavior based on occupancy—especially for a guest room that’s only used sometimes.
What I’m trying to achieve
-
Keep each room at its own setpoint using the Flair Vent/Puck in that room.
-
Use ecobee occupancy (SmartSensors) so unoccupied rooms don’t call for air and vents stay mostly closed—while occupied rooms get priority.
Questions
-
Controlling all rooms:
-
What’s the recommended control model so that each room uses its own Puck for temperature, while the system still respects overall HVAC limits?
-
Should Flair rooms be set to “Auto” with per-room setpoints, or is there a better pattern when paired with ecobee?
-
-
Ecobee occupancy → Flair behavior:
-
Can Flair use ecobee SmartSensor occupancy to mark a Flair “Room” as active/inactive automatically?
-
If yes, what exact settings should I enable in both apps
-
If no, what’s the best workaround
-
- Is there a way to let ecobee SmartSensor occupancy flip that state automatically?

Hi Srey,
I will attempt to answer all of your questions here, but if you want to discuss this in more detail, you are welcome to email our support team -- support@flair.coThe first thing to keep in mind is that you will want to run Flair with the System in Auto (not Manual) if you want the Smart Vents to open and close based on the temperature readings from our Pucks or the ecobee sensors.
The big decision you will need to make is whether you let the ecobee control the heating and cooling decisions or if you let Flair do this. This is dictated by the Set Point Controller option in Flair. We generally recommend that you start your Flair journey with your thermostat in control of the heating and cooling decisions so you can get familiar with Flair scheduling and how the Smart Vents operate. Once you are familiar, you can give the Set Point Controller = Flair App setting a try and allow Flair to control the heating and cooling decisions.
You can have your Flair rooms set to Active and Inactive automatically based on the ecobee sensors' occupancy readings. This is a setting you toggle on/off in the Flair app. This setting is located in the Home Settings -> System Settings menu.
Hope this was helpful.
Regards,
The Flair Team
