Nest/Puck configuration question

I have a house with three desired zones:

Upstairs: cooling (central air)/heating (central air heat pump)/heating (baseboards for lower temps)

Main level: cooling (central air)/heating (central air heat pump)/heating (baseboards for lower temps)

Basement: cooling (mini split [not purchased yet])/heating (mini split [not purchased yet])/heating (baseboards for lower Temps [installed])

Right now the top two floors are using nest thermostats wired to HVAC zoning board and alternative heat - water boiler zoning board, works well.

We are finishing basement and wanted to install minisplit (improved efficiency etc...), but read about the problems with nest thermostats and mini splits, so see three possible solutions:

1: Install a flair puck in basement to control mini split (via IR) and baseboards via wire and "talks" with existing nests, using flair app for control.

2: Install nest in basement and puck in basement and nest "tells" puck when to run mini split via IR, using nest app for control.

3: replace nests with pucks wired to current HVAC/boiler wires, then install puck in basement, using flair app for control

4: Something I did not describe

Also we are deciding on what mini split to get was going to with Mr Cool DIY. but not sure on compatibility with nest, but seems all mini splits have similar problems if we want full capabilities of mini-split.

Lastly, we currently use nest app for control and are familiar and comfortable with interface so not sure we want to switch to new interface,but assume flair app is comparable and good?

Hi Derek,

option 1) Flair cannot be wired to control baseboards. The puck only has Wifi, temp, pres, %humidity, IR, low-frequency network. The only wire on the puck is a USB power cable. Flair defines a puck that's plugged into a wall outlet via USB a Gateway puck. A puck which is operating off AAA batteries is a Sensor puck.

Flair is not a thermostat, and cannot control HVAC on its own. Flair controls smart vents and IR devices, and integrates with smart thermostats.

Hello Sal,

Thanks for the quick reply. Option 1 is not viable as I need the basement to have control over its baseboards, is Option 2 viable?

Meaning can the nest control the baseboards as alternative heat then for "normal" control it signals the puck which in turn controls the mini split?
