Mini Splits
Flair controls ductless mini splits, ducted mini splits, window units, and portables via IR commands generated and sent by our Flair Puck. The Puck acts as the IR remote control does to send commands, but without user intervention.
Flair also works with General Electric (GE)/Haier Wi-Fi connected mini splits but instead of issuing commands via IR, commands are relayed to the equipment via the cloud. See below for more specifics.
Idempotent (i.e. stateful) commands vs. Incremental commands
Many of the IR remotes on the market send commands in an idempotent manner, meaning they transmit the entire desired state (mode, temperature, fan speed, vane position) with every button press rather than just sending an "up" or "down" signal. Flair is architected to send commands this same way.
Flair also works with some incrementally controlled mini split, window unit, and portable devices.

Setup of a Wi-Fi controlled unit(s) such as GE/Haier
If you are setting up a WiFi-controlled mini split, window unit, or portable, you willl need to give Flair permissions to access your data on the third-party site (Haier/GE Appliances in the example below). If you have more than one unit, please be sure to specify which ones to import into Flair.
Once permissions have been granted, a list of third-party devices will be enumerated. You will then select the unit and the room that unit is located in, and the setup will be complete. The setup flow will be as follows for each unit:
- Create a room
- Add pucks, vents, remote sensors, thermostats, and wi-fi mini splits to the room
