Feature request: Night mode for vents
Sometime vent wakes me up when it opens or closes in the night.
It is possible to add a Night Mode, so it will open/close not so loud (may just do it slooowwly :) ?

A huge +1 for this. The vents were occasionally waking up our 3 year old or my wife. I had to monkey with the schedule to avoid them opening/closing at night, which is less than ideal. The rooms are now quiet, but get no airflow overnight!
Either a slower open or some "quiet mode" option would be very helpful. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if the vent opening takes 30 seconds or 1 second - but waking people up at night does!

Thanks for filing the feature request Kevin!
Flair support was kind enough to manually set a few of my vents to transition slower to reduce the noise. This makes the peak noise a bit lower, but not much, and also makes the transition take a bit longer, and overall still woke me up at night. So I would ask that night mode include a way to simply turn off transitions altogether during certain times, for certain vents, rather than just slow them down.

Kevin,
Using the API I now switch the mode to manual for the entire house at bedtime, then back to auto as at wake time. This stops things from moving in during the night! That said. can you tell me if there is an api switch to set a specific vent to a slower speed? I would love to test that out instead of switching between manual and auto modes.

I'm assuming people who don't want the vents to move at night are using the vents to limit temp only and not for HVAC control. Letting the thermostat control when the HVAC system runs.
In that scenario, can you just set a schedule with a very dramatic temp for the hours you don't want the vent to move?
In the summer, setting a room limit temp to 50 degrees when the AC is running should open all the vents and just leave them open. As the room will never get below 50.
In the winter, set the room limit temp to 90 degrees when the heat is running. That should open and leave them open as it never gets that hot.
Do the reverse if you want them to stay closed. Then you only need to change between different schedule twice a year. Along with leaving the room circulation fan only setting off.

Would really love to have this be a configurable feature: either (a) the ability to have specific vents open/close slowly to reduce noise and/or (b) have the option to configure quiet hours for specific vents, similar to how there are quiet hours for a mini-split.

Yep. 100%. I just got my smart vents to try to solve an imbalance issue, and they have woken me up twice in a week. They are indeed somewhat loud, and I can't do the "just set a dramatic temperature" thing because my ecobee sets the heating/cooling mode, so I don't always know if it will be a cold or a warm night and which dramatic direction to set the vent at.
It makes way more sense to just allow us to toggle vents from the app and/or disable a vent during a schedule. It's really surprising to me this feature does not exist. -
Mjwebb33 MG and anyone else on this thread who is interested.
We have some motor settings we can adjust that should result in quieter operation of your Smart Vents.
We tested this internally, saw benefits, and have made the change on mjwebb33's Flair home. We would like to try this out on a few more homes and get feedback from, you, our valued users.
If any of you would like to try this, please email support@flair.co and mention that your vents are noisy. We will apply these settings to the Smart Vents in your home. Please title the email "Vent Actuation Noise Reduction Trial".
Thanks everyone!

These settings have been in place in your home for a week. Please let us know if you have noticed a difference since the change.
Thanks for being a valued Flair customer.
Regards,
The Flair Team.

Can anyone who has tried the new motor settings report on whether it made any difference?
With support, I tried slower motor settings around December 2024 but reverted back because it didn’t really make any difference. What are those new motor settings and how are they different than the slower motor setting that support set back then?
-
@Pierre I had support slow my motors within the past few months. It did make a difference but it's still far from silent. However, the system is working well enough that I kept it in place and it isn't waking us up in the middle of the night anymore. I think we've also partly gotten used to it.
