Building a House - I Want to Wire for Flair
AnsweredI'm currently in the early process of building a home, and I am intrigued at the possibility of wiring all the vents in the house so that I can install Flair vents!
The article at https://support.flair.co/hc/en-us/articles/360000532791-Can-I-wire-my-Smart-Vent-for-AC-power- was helpful, but a little incomplete in a way I was hoping the community could help out.
The article states, "A 40VA (@24VAC) power supply/transformer will suffice for up to 10 Smart Vents."
I'm at a loss as to what product i need to install to power multiple runs. Searching Amazon for some sort of 24VAC adapter yielded single output units, but nothing where I imagine running 10 (or more) lines into it.
I am installing ethernet to a embedded panel in a closet and I'm thinking about running 24VAC (and 12VDC alarm wire) into the panel as well (or a separate one).
What sort of products can support 120V to many 24VAC output?
Thanks!

Hi James,
Thanks for reaching out and sorry we didn't make this easier - I went ahead and updated the article to include a link to this transformer.
In terms of wiring, they can be daisy chained or wired in parallel. I also was speaking with our engineers last week and they have suggested that 15 vents off of this transformer is perfectly fine as well rather than the listed 10 vents in the included instructions - I also updated this on our knowledge base as well.
Hope that helps and please do reach out either here or directly to our support team if you have any additional questions!
Cheers,

Chrissie Do the vents know they are hard wired? I have 4 (so far) out of my 14 vents hard wired with 18/2. Do the vents operate differently being hard wired rather than battery?
-
Brian Wuttke - I believe it's possible to tell that the vents are hardwired by the voltage reported - asking engineering. We aren't currently doing anything different for wired vs battery powered vents.
Jim - we recommend this transformer and I think whether its wired in parallel or series doesn't end up mattering so wire nuts or a terminal block might be your best set of options. Happy to clarify further if it would be helpful! -
Thank you Brian Wuttke and Chrissie - that’s helpful. Looking forward to this system in my new home.

@Brian - Engineering says that most likely it is detectable implicitly via the system voltage. We'll consider upping the polling speed among other things - I filed a ticket internally to track it and I know there are some similar changes for non-gateway pucks that are wired so it could be cool to roll those out together. Thanks for the suggestion.
Cheers,Dan
