This article explains how Flair switches between heat and cool modes when the home is configured to use our single set point algorithm. The information below applies only when the Flair Mode is set to Auto Heat/Cool and the Set Point Controller is set to "Flair App".
All Flair homes created after 1/19/2023, are configured to use our Single Set Point algorithm by default during setup.
Adjusting when mode switching occurs
There is a backend variable tied to your Flair home known as the Heat Cool Mode Hysteresis (HCMH). This value determines when the Flair mode will switch from Heat to Cool or vice versa. The default HCMH value is 3°F. If you would like this value to be adjusted please contact the Flair Technical Support Team: flair.co/contact
Overview
Flair evaluates each zone once every 5 minutes by comparing the average set point of the active rooms at the time to the average temperature reading for those same active rooms. This calculation results in a zone delta. When the zone delta is greater than the value specified in the Heat Cool Mode Hysteresis Flair will switch from heat mode to cool mode (or vice versa). Please note that Flair does not use the temperature and set point data from Inactive rooms when calculating this zone delta.
Based on the default value of 3°F...
- Flair will switch to heat mode when the zone delta calculated shows the zone is 3°F or more too cold.
- Flair will switch to cool mode when the calculated zone delta shows the zone is 3°F or more too hot.
Example
Let's say the average set point of Active rooms is 72F.
Based on the default value of 3F...
Flair will switch the mode to heat when:
The average temperature of Active rooms drops below 69F
Flair will switch the mode to cool when:
The average temperature of Active rooms rises above 75F
