Flair uses three communication protocols: WiFi, Radio Frequency signals and InfraRed signals as described below. While Flair can integrate with smart thermostats and their sensors (when available), Flair devices cannot communicate with them directly. See also: Statistics: Signal Strength
WiFi
Like all smart home products, Flair requires a constant WiFi connection. Gateway Pucks use WiFi and act as the hub of your Flair system. (Flair uses a 2.4GHz network. Most routers broadcast both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz networks.)
Note: Sensor Pucks that are paired with a mini split will briefly connect to WiFi when downloading the remote codes. Sensor Pucks will also connect to WiFi during an OTA update.
Radio Frequency
Gateway Pucks communicate with Smart Vents and Sensor Pucks (Pucks that are not configured as Gateway Pucks) using Radio frequency (RF) signals.
We suggest centrally locating your Gateway Pucks to facilitate RF communication to these Flair devices.
InfraRed
In addition, Flair use InfraRed (IR) signals to communicate with mini splits and other IR-controlled devices that are controlled by Flair.
