Rapid changes to an HVAC system can cause short-cycling, where a system quickly turns on and off. This can be damaging to an HVAC system, reduce efficiency and produce costly energy use.
To prevent this, a thermostat will use a temperature band around a set point so that it's not making changes too quickly. This is commonly called a "hysteresis band".
Flair follows this practice for opening and closing Smart Vents to avoid opening and closing them too often. Flair uses a 1F hysteresis band around all set points before adjusting Smart Vents.
In this example, the system is cooling and the Smart Vent is open. It will close when the room temperature rises 1F above the room set point.
In this example, the system is heating and the Smart Vent is closed. It will open when the room temperature dips 1F below the set point.
