Smart Vents are generally not online for one of two reasons
- Loss of power
- Loss of a quality RF (radio frequency) connection with a Flair Bridge or Gateway Puck
If your Smart Vent(s) is offline please follow the steps below to get it online.
- First, let's make sure the batteries are not an issue. Check the Home Statistics tool in the Flair App and if the battery voltage readings for this Smart Vent over the past week are not greater than 2.5V please replace the batteries. If the battery voltage is good please proceed to Step 2 below. Please note: When the batteries are replaced the Smart Vent should go through the startup sequence: the louvers cycle and the LED light bar activates briefly.
- Next, let's Reset the Smart Vent, following the instructions in the article linked. If the Smart Vent is still not online let's examine the RF signal strength to this Smart Vent.
Troubleshooting RF Signal Strength
All Smart Vents communicate with a Flair Bridge or Gateway Puck using RF (radio frequency) signals.
Use the Home Statistics tool to check the quality of the RF signal between the Smart Vent and the Bridge or Gateway Puck it has been paired with. If the RSSI readings are below -80 we need to improve the quality of this connection or get the Smart Vent paired to a more optimal hub (Bridge or Gateway Puck). Normally a Smart Vent cannot be moved as it's installed in the duct opening in a fixed location.
To increase the signal strength readings for this Smart Vent we have several options:
-
- Option 1: Try rotating the Smart Vent 180° in the duct to see if that improves the RF signal readings.
- Option 2: If there are other Flair hubs (Bridge or Gateway Puck) in this home that the Smart Vent could connect to let's try enabling Network Repair Mode to see if the Smart Vent will pair with a new Gateway Puck or Bridge that offers a stronger RF signal.
- Option 3: Try relocating a Bridge or Gateway Puck closer to the offline Smart Vent. Note: you should check RSSI readings for your devices after 24 hours to ensure this hasn't negatively impacted any other devices.
- Option 4: Convert a nearby Sensor Puck to a Gateway Puck. This will allow the Smart Vent to pair with this new, likely closer Gateway Puck.
- Option 5: Add a Flair Bridge or Gateway Puck to this home to increase the RF range and the signal quality to devices throughout your Flair home.
As you work to better the signal strength between your Flair devices please keep in mind that large metal objects or other devices that communicate on a similar radio frequency can interfere with the RF signal quality.
