    Hi Anthony Byrne,

I want to ensure we're on the same page with the Set Point Controller setting and how heating and cooling work with Flair.

Your Nest controls your HVAC system and calls for heating or cooling based on the current mode and by comparing the ambient room temperature to the given set point.

When Set Point Controller is set to "Flair App", Flair controls the mode and set point on your Nest, but does not directly call for heating or cooling. For example, if the current mode is Cool and Flair determines that your home, on average, is too warm, Flair will nudge the set point down by a degree to get the Nest to engage cooling. Flair will then continue to monitor your home to see if it needs to nudge the set point again.

In this way, Flair indirectly influences heating and cooling decisions on the Nest.

Again, to have Flair control your Nest, the Set Point Controller setting must be set to "Flair App".

Conversely, when the Set Point Controller is set to "Thermostat," you will interact with your Nest to change the mode and set points, which Flair then reads. In this case, you control the Nest, not Flair.

In either case, you can set room holds (change the set point of a room) and Flair will use a room's set point to open/close the Vents in the room.

When Flair is the Set Point Controller, Flair will also use room set points to determine if your home is too warm or cool.

Here's more information on how Set Point Controller works.

    All the best,

    Finn

Thank you, that helps a lot.  One part of the documentation/setup confuses me is that you do NOT need a puck for a room with a smart thermostat.

Will changing the setpoint of the smart vents in the room with the Nest always require the app, regardless of the Stepoint controller?  I just don't need a puck to read the temp in the room with the Nest.

    Hi Anthony Byrne,

There are three ways you can change the set point in a Flair room.

With a Flair Puck, you can change the set point directly on the Puck.

You can change the set point in the room tile in the Flair app or with an active schedule.

If you are using SPC = Thermostat then you can change the set point on the thermostat and this will get written out to that room and any other rooms that don't have an active hold in place.  This may have unintended consequences including how it affects the HVAC system.

    Regards,

    The Flair Team
